Though Pancholi refrained from naming anyone directly, his remarks are widely being interpreted as a veiled reference to Tezaab‘s lead actor, Anil Kapoor. The mention of “elder brother,” which appears to point toward producer Boney Kapoor, has also caught attention — though Boney was not associated with Tezaab at the time.

The film, directed by N. Chandra, became a turning point in the careers of both Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. It will complete 37 years this November. So far, neither Anil Kapoor, Boney Kapoor, nor N. Chandra has reacted to Pancholi’s claims.

Actor and politician Kangana Ranaut was granted bail on Monday by a Bathinda court in Punjab in connection with a defamation case filed by farmer protestor Mahinder Kaur. The case dates back to 2021, when Kaur accused Ranaut of defaming her through a social media post during the farmers’ protest.

Mahinder Kaur’s counsel, Raghubir Singh Beniwal, confirmed that the court granted bail to Ranaut on a bond furnished by her father. He added that Ranaut also moved a plea seeking permanent exemption from personal appearances, which he opposed.

According to Beniwal, when the court asked Ranaut whether she wanted to say anything, the actor said she wished to apologize to the complainant, asserting that her post was not intended to target anyone.

The court then sought the response of Mahinder Kaur’s husband, Labh Singh, who said he would consult with family members before deciding whether to accept the apology. The matter has now been listed for hearing on November 24.

The complaint, filed in January 2021, alleged that Ranaut had wrongly identified Mahinder Kaur as Bilkis Bano, the elderly activist known for her participation in the 2020 Shaheen Bagh protests. Kaur claimed that the actor’s “false imputations and remarks” compared her to the “dadi” from Shaheen Bagh, despite her being part of the farmers’ protest since its inception.

Earlier this year, the Supreme Court had observed that Ranaut’s post “was not a simple retweet” and that the actor had “added spice” to the existing content. Following this remark, Ranaut withdrew her plea before the apex court.

Director Kanwal Sethi, celebrated for his work in both Indian and international cinema, is known for crafting intimate human stories with universal resonance. His upcoming venture is expected to capture the lyrical essence of romance while delving into the emotional complexities of modern love.

The project is being produced by Kovid Gupta, a filmmaker, screenwriter, and author who founded Kovid Gupta Films in 2018 with a focus on creating meaningful and engaging cinema. A former Head of Business Development at Vinod Chopra Films, Gupta is also the author of two bestselling books — Kingdom of the Soap Queen: The Story of Balaji Telefilms and Redrawing India: The Teach For India. Story.

While details about the title, supporting cast, and release timeline remain under wraps, industry insiders suggest the film will be a visually rich and emotionally charged story that traverses cultural and emotional landscapes.

With Kanwal Sethi’s cross-cultural sensibilities, the fresh pairing of Rahul Bhat and Dia Mirza, and Kovid Gupta’s vision as producer, this untitled love story is already shaping up to be one of the most Anticipated cinematic collaborations of the year.
